In trying to paint freely its essential to loosening up. Work quickly initially and then slow down and stand back. Standing up also good, as is using a large 80cm square canvas. Tool kit to include large brushes and palate knife with sharp point.
Things that helps to relax are: Loud music, glass of wine and privacy. .
Can use bright colours as a base as well as earthy tones. Don't often need a plan of what to paint. Once the background is down, focus on the subject first and then the ground.
Work in a limited colour palette- 4 cols plus white.
Use oil pastels in dots and dashes to lift work. Acrylic paint darkens when dried. Annie applies satin varnish over the canvas to bring out the colour back.
If a piece doesn’t work it’s fine to over paint.
